Dove Cameron’s Disney characters are a part of the LGBQT+ community

Dove Cameron has just revealed that Liv from Liv and Maddie was “definitely gay” and that Maddie was bisexual. Cameron played the lead role of twins Liv and Maddie in the popular Disney Channel show Liv and Maddie.

Liv was an actress who was stereotypically girly and Maddie was the stereotypical tomboy with a talent for sports. Ever since the show’s debut, fans have speculated about the sexual identity of both characters.

A fan tweeted a meme an image from Taron Egerton and Richard Madden’s Rocket Man Carpool Karaoke in which Taron is dressed in an extravagant Elton outfit and Richard is dressed in black. The fan said that Taron was Liv and Richard was Maddie.

Cameron, who is openly bisexual, retweeted the image saying, “me when i date a man / me when I date a woman”. Then a fan replied back to Cameron “Still not convinced Liv was straight”. She replied, “Maddie was definitely gay”.

A fan then responded: “okay but LIV was a LESBIAN.” Dove corrected them by writing: “Liv was bi”.

Dove then talked about her other characters, who she confirmed are also members of the LGBTQ+ community.

One person tweeted: “we stan you for confirming that all your characters are gay (cof cof mal cof cof)”, referring to Mal, Maleficient’s daughter in Descendants, who is played by Cameron. She confirmed that Mal is pansexual. Dove also stated that her character Ruby from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was “asexual”.

It is good to see an increase in the representation of the LGBTQ+ community in the entertainment industry in recent times.
