‘The Rise of Skywalker’ to stream on Disney+ two months ahead

Disney is releasing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker onto its platform Disney+ two months ahead of schedule, with the movie now debuting online on 4 May globally.

The streaming service announced that the final film in the Star Wars saga will join its May line-up, which will include the premiere of the eight-episode documentary series, The Mandalorian and the series finale of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, with Ian McDiarmid and Billy Dee Williams.

The Rise of Skywalker has been a popular home entertainment title in the U.S. over the past four weeks. The nine-part story, which launched with 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, will be available within Disney+’s collection of Star Wars movies and series.

Disney is emphasising on its streaming service, with theme parks, movie theaters shut over the past couple of months. Disney + has surpassed 50 million global subscribers.
