Sony’s Project Morpheus gets a new identity as PlayStation VR

The Sony VR headset, which has long been in the making, has changed its name and is now officially titled PlayStation VR. The announcement was made at the Tokyo Games Show.

Project Morpheus currently has a few games on display at the Tokyo Game Show and Sony is gunning for more developers to jump into its development wagon. One of the top competitors for Sony is the Facebook backed Oculus Rift, which has had a vast lead when it comes to gaming on the VR platform.

PlayStation has announced a price cut but that is currently only limited to Japan and could majorly be due to the waning sales figure of the console which has enjoyed a sizable lead among its competitors in the recent past. Sony has another press conference coming in October in Paris which might announce a similar price cut for Europe as well. Nothing has been announced for India yet.

The availability of PlayStation VR will only be in 2016 but no dates from Sony have yet been announced.
