Disney prohibits smoking in all its films; also extends to Marvel, LucasFilm & Pixar

Disney has made an important announcement that will span across its various companies involved in film creation, Disney, Marvel, LucasFilm and Pixar for PG 13-rated future productions.

Speaking at a meeting with shareholders last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the company is extending its policy to prohibit smoking in movies. However, smoking as part of a cultural or historical background of a real-life figure will still be included. All other characters will prohibit any form of smoking.

Some Disney characters that have been shown smoking in the past include the caterpillar in 1951’s Alice in Wonderland, Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations.

At the shareholder meeting, Disney also gave clues for its upcoming movies including the second adaptation of Frozen and Star Wars’ first standalone film Rogue One.
