Cameron ropes in Dark Horse to publish ‘Avatar’ comic

The movie that released 6 years back and has surpassed the 1997 epic romantic disaster film –Titanic, is none other than Avatar, the visually breathtaking movie of all time. Owing to the success of the film and the positive reviews garnered worldwide, the mastermind behind the film, James Cameron who has already made plans to release 3 sequels of the hit franchise, is now going to launch the comic series of the same.

At the New York Comic Con event, Dark Horse Comics announced their partnership with 20th Century Fox and James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment for a line of Avatar comic books. The movie which was set on the distant planet of Pandora, an exotic world populated by Na’vi people, Avatar made nearly $2.8bn (Ł1.8bn) at the box office and Cameron told that the comic version will feature new storylines from the past, present and the future world of Avatar.

This isn’t the first time that Dark Horse Comics is being roped in by Cameron to make comics based on his films. Earlier we saw the company publishing The Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss feature films.

“James Cameron is one of the film industry’s greatest talents,” Dark Horse president Mike Richardson said in a statement. “His films, always on the cutting edge technologically, feature rich characters and amazing worlds, a fact reflected in Avatar’s status as the all time box-office champion. We couldn’t be more excited about working with James and his team at Lightstorm to expand the breathtaking world of Pandora.”

Currently Cameron is working on the upcoming sequel of Avatar which is slated to release in 2017. It is also getting a themed area in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida called “Pandora – The World of ‘Avatar”. As for the comic launch, no release dates have been declared by Dark Horse.
