Warner Bros. Games postpones ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ to February 2023

The release date for the open-world adventure game Hogwarts Legacy, which takes place in the Harry Potter wizarding world, has been moved up to 2023 from its initial holiday 2022 release window. Hogwarts Legacy will now be released on 10 February 2023, according to an announcement from the game’s publisher Warner Bros. and its developer Portkey Games.

Warner Bros. stated on the official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account, “The team is excited for you to play, but we need a little more time to deliver the best possible game experience.” The Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy does not have a new release date, it was also emphasised that the new date only pertains to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions of the game.

Approximately 100 years before Harry Potter enrols, Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s. The player character is a new wizard or witch, but they are simply a fifth-year student at Hogwarts, where they will study advanced magic skills like casting spells and concocting them, making friends, and dealing with rivals and dark wizards.

Hogwarts Legacy is not created by J.K. Rowling, even if it fits into the overall Harry Potter canon. Following Rowling’s outspoken transphobic views, Warner Bros. Games immediately distanced the Hogwarts Legacy project from her.
