Toon Club, Division of Climb Media Organizes Egyptoons Workshop for Kids as a part of ‘Mummy: ‘The Inside Story’ exhibition on 29th December’12

And now a workshop for kids to experience Egyptian Art and Animation!

Titled ‘Egyptoons’ and slated on the 29th this month, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) along with Toon Club , a division of climb media, catering to teach animation to the kids fraternity, have jointly designed an animation workshop to integrate with ‘Mummy: The Inside Story’ exhibitions and exploring the life of Egyptian Priest Nesperennub.

The workshop is a part of Mummy: The inside Story’ exhibition, which took off on 21st November’12 and will continue for four months. This exhibition is brought across through the collaboration of the British Museum and CSMVS and is brought to Mumbai by BP and Reliance Foundation. The exhibition will take visitors on a 3D immersive experience into the coffin of Nesperennub, a priest who lived and died in Egypt nearly 3,000 years ago. This exhibition will take viewers through a ‘virtual unwrap’, a 3D journey combined with dramatic reconstructions of the priest’s life and mummification in ancient Egypt. Kids joining the exhibition will be exposed to numerous aspects of Egyptian culture and heritage, one of which includes Hieroglyphics, a formal writing system used by the ancient Egyptians which combined graphic elements. Children will use these graphic elements to create animations.

An appealing line up of this 4 hour workshop is composed with the topics covering Art of Movement (Animation): Brief History & definition, Persistence of Vision and Optical Device, Flip books, Hieroglyphics Animation and children will have a good learning time by experiencing traditional hand-drawn animation on light boxes.

Post Completion of the workshop, each participant will receive an Optical Device and Flip book and also be awarded with a Participation Certificate and CD, which would contain the final animation created at the workshop.

Speaking to AnimationXpress.com’s Zeenia Boatwala about Egyptoons, Tehzeeb Khurana, Founder of Toon Club, shares, “We have always believed this concept has immense potential, just requires perseverance and passion to unlock its true value. The main philosophy behind every Toon Club workshop is to expose children to Animation as an Art form and introduce to them the fascinating History of Animation. In this particular workshop, children will learn how Animation and Egyptian history is interconnected.”

Tehzeeb along with the Toon Club Team will be conducting the workshop and kids aged between 7- 14 years can register and take away a bundle of historic animation knowledge from this workshop.

According to Tehzeeb, Egyptoons is more about the ‘Art of movement or Animation’ and not a computer animation workshop where children spend most of their time in learning and understanding software tools and commands. One more noted aspect of this workshop is that, for making a place in this workshop, the kid participants need not possess any particular pre-requisites or special skills, like drawing skills or computer knowledge.

Tehzeeb asserts, “There is a lot of misconception among the younger generation that animation is created on computers. Yes, to some extent this is true. However, before you create animations on computers you need to have knowledge of the Fundamental Principles of Animation or the Art of Animation.”

The title ‘Egyptoons’ is given by Bilwa Kulkarni, Education Officer at CSMVS and their education consultant Usha Rajaram. Egyptoons Workshop, on the 29th December will commence at 10: 30 in the morning and continue till 2: 30 noon.

“Since Animation is a vast subject, CSMVS is keen to have longer duration animation workshops spread over three or four days as a regular activity in the future. Egyptoons, being the first of its kind, is to test waters and build interest in ‘Animation as an Art’ among kids.” informs, Tehzeeb.

Last date for getting a place in this workshop is the 25th of this month and Kids, willing to experience the Egyptian world can participate in this workshop by paying INR 2000 and register by clicking on the given link.

With Egyptoons, Tehzeeb wants the participants to gain a magical Experience and feels that Egyptoons is a combination of two fascinating and magical mysteries- Egypt and Animation.

Highlights further, Hope the children attending the workshop have fun animating and experience the ‘Magic of Animation’ on seeing their drawings move and come to life.”

With grabbing the Egyptoons workshop, Toonclub has also made a mark at Ecole Mondiale World School for teaching Animation as part of the Art Unit for (Grade 3-9).

“Toon Club workshops are not only for those who want to pursue animation as a career. Animation is an amalgamation of a many subjects including maths, science and art. Thus it broadens their understanding of these subjects that is learnt at school level. . We just want to continue moving in the direction and someday Animation as an art activity will become an integral part of our education system. , concludes, Tehzeeb.
