DC to release new ‘Batman’ and ‘Fortnite’ crossover comics

DC Comics and Fortnite developer Epic Games are joining forces on a new Batman and Fortnite-themed crossover comic book. It is a six-issue miniseries, titled Batman / Fortnite: Zero Point, that brings together the world of the Epic Games battle royale and the Dark Knight.

Zero Point is scripted by Christos Gage (Spider-Geddon), based on a concept and story consultation from Epic’s Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard. The series features art from Reilly Brown, Christian Duce, Nelson DeCastro and John Kalisz. Zero Point brings the Dark Knight and other DC icons like Catwoman and Harley Quinn crashing into the Fortnite universe.

Script writer Christos Gage said, “When DC first approached me about doing a Batman/Fortnite series I thought it would be a lot of fun. After speaking with Donald and discovering just how deeply we’d be diving into the secrets behind the world of Fortnite, I was amazed! This series will reveal things about Fortnite that have never been seen or heard before yet are very much part of the canon of the game.

Each print issue of Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point will also include a redeemable code for bonus DC-themed Fortnite digital items, inspired by the events in the comic, starting with the new Rebirth Harley Quinn Outfit. Readers can collect the whole series and get an “Armored Batman Zero” skin.

Gage continued saying, “I’m also looking forward to integrating other DC Super Heroes into the series, characters that Batman has existing relations with. It’ll be exciting to share with fans how these relationships will be reshaped in this new world. The art by Reilly, Christian, Nelson, and John is stunning, and my prediction is that this series will blow everybody’s mind, whether you’re a fan of DC, Batman or Fortnite.”

Batman, Catwoman and Harley Quinn originally joined Fortnite back in 2019, and a part of Gotham City was included on the island’s map for some of the game’s climactic Season X, which led into its big black hole reset. Since then, we’ve seen other DC characters turn up, such as Poison Ivy, Joker, Green Arrow and Flash.

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point will also launch in print day and date (including the item codes), published in the native languages of the following territories: Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and the Czech Republic.

Longtime Fortnite fans might have perked up at the mention of the Zero Point, a reality-warping ball of energy that is hovering over the middle of the Fortnite island and is the catalyst for this season’s many brand crossovers. It seems the Zero Point will play a key role in this comic miniseries, according to this plot summary:

A crack splits the sky above Gotham City… a tear in reality itself. This rift pulls the Dark Knight into a bizarre and unfamiliar world, with no memory of who he is or where he came from…Batman has been drawn into Fortnite!

As he fights to recall his past and escape an endless loop of chaos and struggle, he’ll come face-to-face with the likes of Renegade Raider, Fishstick, Bandolier, and more. While the world’s greatest detective strives to make sense of this strange new world, he’ll uncover the shocking truth about the Island, what lies beyond the Loop, and how everything is connected to the mysterious Zero Point.

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point uncovers secrets never before revealed in game or anywhere else! Every fan of Batman, Fortnite, stunning art and edge-of-your-seat excitement won’t want to miss the Caped Crusader facing off against Fortnite champions on the Island, in a desperate attempt to save not only himself, but other familiar faces from the DCU…and perhaps the Multiverse itself!

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point arrives in comic book stores and on participating digital platforms on 20 April 2021. Subsequent issues will ship twice monthly beginning in May (4 May/18 May) and June (1 June/15 June), with a single issue concluding the series on 6 July 2021. Each issue sells for $4.99, with the card stock variant cover versions available for $5.99.
