Nintendo acquires Japanese animation studio Dynamo Pictures

Nintendo announced that it has acquired Japanese animation studio Dynamo Pictures and is going to rename it to Nintendo Pictures.

The gaming company also said that the deal will close on 3 October. The company has decided to acquire 100 per cent of the outstanding shares (excluding treasury shares) of Dynamo Pictures and turn it to a wholly owned subsidiary to strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content in the Nintendo group. The deal is reportedly made with the aim of creating visual content with Nintendo IPs.

Nintendo frequently adds sequences to its new games. However, the deal also leaves Nintendo Pictures open to other projects, such as TV shows and movies. The deal also comes prior to the release of the Super Mario Bros movie, starring Chris Pratt, being pushed forward until April 2023.

With this deal, we can expect to see more of Nintendo’s most iconic IPs turn into movies and TV episodes.
