Netflix drops the first trailer of ‘Pacific Rim’ anime series!

Netflix is reentering the world of Legendary’s Pacific Rim franchise with an anime series called Pacific Rim: The Black. It is being produced by Legendary Television Studios with Polygon Pictures providing the animation for the series. The showrunners for this series are Greg Johnson (Transformers: Rescue Bots) and Marvel Comics writer Craig Kyle (Thor).

With Netflix dropping the trailer fo Pacific Rim: The Black, we can finally confirm that the widely anticipated anime adaptation is coming to Netflix on 4 March 2021.

Pacific Rim: The Black is an upcoming addition to the synonymous film series, which saw human forces deploy giant robots, called jaegers, to combat an onslaught of interdimensional baddies. The show’s first teaser didn’t reveal much, except for the two siblings piloting an abandoned Jaeger mech. But in the full trailer, we get a better sense of just what happened to force them into this situation. The season one will consist of seven 30-minute episodes.

According to the trailer, it’s been years since Jaeger mechs regularly battled Kaiju. In that time, the entire continent of Australia became overrun by Kaiju and had to be completely evacuated. The two siblings, Taylor and Haley, have been waiting for their parents for years in the desolate Australian wasteland, before finally taking matters into their own hands. They find the old Jaeger and boot it up, in hopes of finding their way off the continent and reuniting with their parents.

Here’s the official description from Netflix:

“There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.”

Based on filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s blockbuster Pacific Rim movie franchise, Pacific Rim: The Black continues the epic battles between monsters and robots, this time through the eyes of two teens in Australia. Del Toro’s Pacific Rim was released in 2013 and its sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, hit theaters in 2018. The anime series is set to expand on the story told in the first two films.
