This year, In addition to a three day exhibition, the Design Degree Show held annually at IDC Mumbai shall also include a seminar on Design titled,’Design Experience 2006′
The seminar includes presentations of design work from the industry, followed by a panel discussion by design motivators on critical issues in design.
Speaking to Animation ‘xpress, IDC spokesperson commented, “The seminar is a consolidated effort to showcase the work done by designers and other professionals related to the field, and hopes to provide an opportunity to get an insight into their different experiences while designing”
“The objective of the seminar is to draw attention to the problems connected with professional design practice, process and conceptualisation; designer – client interactions, design implementation and its realisation into workable solutions. The seminar is expected to also provide an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas among fellow designers” he added.
Speakers at the seminar include Sanjay Jain, Bajaj Electricals; Kunal Rawat, Grandmother India; Ashok Panwalkar, Philips India; Divya Thakur, Design Temple; and Sandeep Bomble, Group of Designers, while panelists for the group discussion on ‘Design and Identity’ include Padmashri Dashrath Patel, Prof U A Thavankar, IDC, IIT Bombay; Prahlad Khakkar, Genesis; Sunil Lulla, Times Global Broadcasting and Sudhir Sharma, Elephant Design.
The seminar will be followed in the evening by the inauguration of Design Degree Show (DDS) by the chief guest for DDS, Padmashri Dashrath Patel at 6.00 pm at IDC, IIT Bombay along with the host Prof Dipan Ghosh,
Deputy Director of IIT Bombay.
This year the DDS exhibition, themed ‘Take Off’ is being held at IDC, IIT Bombay from 10-12th June 2006. The exhibition will consist of exhibits displaying the design solutions of graduating students. Spread over three days, the exhibition allows the general public as well as the industry to see the way design can make a difference to them. DDS also allows for the industry and the students to freely interact, to think of ways in which their projects could be taken forward.
The event also includes ‘Abhikalpa 2006’ to be held on 11 June 2006, 9 30 am– 12.30 pm and 2.30 to 5.30 pm at IDC, IIT The workshop is being held for high school students on different areas of design such as Auto Design, Animation, Type Design and Packaging Design. Yet another meeting point for all professional designers including IDCians is the Design Meet 2006, which will be held at 7.00 pm on 11 June.
