Seventh heaven: ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ reigns supreme at the 2019 Annie Awards

Having taken a wrecking ball to all the box-office records, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse added more feather to its cap with a glorious night at the ASIFA Hollywood’s fourty-sixth Annie Awards, winning inĀ all seven categories that it was nominated in.

Including best editorial in an animation film, writing in an animated feature production, production design in an animated feature production and character animation as well as character design in an animated film, Into the Spider-Verse also swept aside some big honors such as best directing in an animated feature production and best animated feature, fighting off challenges from mega productions such as Ralph Breaks the Internet and Incredibles 2.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has grossed $347 million worldwide against a budget of $90 million in the five weeks since it’s release. However, it’s still long way off Disney’s Incredibles 2 that cantered its way to $1.32 billion to become the biggest animation movie of the year.

Yet, the Sony Pictures Animation production, mind you, has got its mitts on the pot as many as 21 times already in 15 different awards, including coveted prizes such as Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globe. And after taking the Annie Awards by storm, Into the Spider-Verse now flutters its eyelashes in the direction of the Oscars, where its been nominated for the best animated feature.
