Progeniq Technology Powers Accel Animation‘s Visual Effects for “The Flying Machine”

Accel Animation recently completed Visual Effects work for the movie “The Flying Machine” with Oscar winning producer Hugh Welchman. At the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Accel and Progeniq revealed that VFX scenes in the movie were rendered with Progeniq RenderBoost accelerator technology. This allowed Accel to complete production on-time, achieving significant cost savings and operational efficiency in the process.

Accel engaged Progeniq to optimize their renderfarm use for the complex VFX shots in this project. The Progeniq team worked with Accel’s VFX supervisors to leverage use of hardware accelerators for the most compute-intensive renders. Render time per frame was reduced from over 60min to 7min. Operational costs of the studio were slashed significantly through use of the hybrid accelerated renderfarm. This was orders of magnitude more energy efficient compared to expanding the number of CPU-only servers, to achieve the same level of compute capacity.

“Progeniq’s RenderBoost solution solved some of our most time-consuming rendering tasks in the most cost-effective way possible. We would not have been able to do this with CPU-only render farms without blowing over our budget on servers, electricity, and cooling costs” said Muralidharan Sankaralingam, CTO of Accel Animation.

“We’re delighted that our clients are realizing significant operational efficiency and cost-savings. Our technology has proven its value in full-resolution rendering of movie production scenes. And our novel business model allows us to work with our clients to deploy hardware accelerators in a dynamic manner on-site as their usage requirements increase and decrease, fully aligning both our interests to complete the render job in the fastest and most cost-effective way possible” said Darran Nathan, CEO of Progeniq.
