Prime Focus World Partners with DNeg to deliver VFX for Total Recall

Prime Focus World has recently delivered close to 400 visual effects shots for Sony Pictures’ latest sci-fi adventure ‘Total Recall’, released on August 3rd 2012.

Working closely with VFX Supervisors Peter Chiang, Adrian De Wet and Paul Riddle at Double Negative (DNeg), the lead VFX house on the film, Prime Focus World’s team worked on around 220 of the shots which included “Synths”, robotic soldiers that were filmed as live action on-set and then either partially or totally recreated in CG. The Synth model had to be flexible enough in its design and rigging setup to accommodate the different physiques of the stand-in actors used on-set.

Other key shots delivered by Prime Focus included zero gravity sequences and extensive futuristic set extension.

The entire VFX work was completed in London at its new Bucknall Street facility led by VFX Supervisor Alex Pejic and Producer Nick King of Prime Focus with additional support coming from artists in Vancouver and Mumbai, linked via Prime Focus’ Global Digital Pipeline.

Total Recall  is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired by the famous short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale by Philip K. Dick. The movie is  was directed byLen Wiseman, written by Mark Bomback,James Vanderbilt, and Kurt Wimmer, and stars Colin FarrellKate BeckinsaleJessica BielBryan CranstonJohn Cho, and Bill Nighy.

It was great to collaborate creatively with them on such a challenging project.”

Prime Focus World Managing Director Martin Hobbs added, “The collaboration with DNeg worked very well for us and it was a pleasure opening up our bandwidth and talent across not only London but also Vancouver and Mumbai to complete this project.
