Indira Varma roped in for Disney+ series ‘Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi’

Game Of Thrones fame Indira Varma has been tapped for the upcoming Disney+ series, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, reports Deadline. Based on Ewan McGregor’s prequel movie character, details about her character as well as the plot are still kept under wraps.

Star Wars prequel stars McGregor and Hayden Christensen have already been roped in for the series, filming of which McGregor recently revealed is due to begin this spring. Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader.

Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi is a pivotal character in the Star Wars movie franchise, acting as a mentor to Luke Skywalker to whom he introduces the ways of the Jedi. He was portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy.

Varma is a renowned stage and small screen actress, well known for her roles in series such as Rome, Game Of Thrones (Ellaria Sand), Carnival Row, and most recently ABC’s For Life. She was an executive producer on UK series Indian Summers and also starred in Ridley Scott’s movie Exodus: Gods And Kings.

The new Disney+ series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where he faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The show is expected to take place between the final movie of George Lucas’s prequels, Revenge Of The Sith, and A New Hope.

Directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed memorable episodes of The Mandalorian season one, the series will be utilising the same StageCraft tech, in which the show’s detailed SFX backgrounds are projected onto ultra-high resolution screens behind the actors, used to film The Mandalorian.
