Continuing with their monthly CGMeetup series, ASIFA India has announced it’s plan to hold the next session on Saturday, 29-July-06. This time the topic will be – Technology in VFX.
While people are generally aware of the inescapable presence of technology in the visual effects arena, few understand the crucial role it plays in the day-to-day life of an artist. The next ‘ASIFA India CGMeetup’ session will be an attempt to demystify the technical aspects of visual effects.
The topics that will be covered are:
– Role of Technology in Visual Effects & Animation
– Hardware / Systems overview in a personal and studio environment
– Operating Systems: Pros and Cons of Linux
– Software applications and tools – customization of tools for a production environment
– Production Pipeline – asset management, render management,
– Leveraging technology for Collaboration & Communication in international production
The presenters will also try and
– clear some common misconceptions among artists about technology
– discuss Open Source software options
– demo some of the tools used at R&H
– talk about what is needed to build a Home PC for working on VFX
According to Rajesh Pai, Head of Technology at R&H India, “Technology has primarily remained behind the scenes, even though it forms the very foundation that makes digital visual effects possible today. While a lot of creative talent and artistic effort is required to create the amazing on-screen magic, the role of information technology and computers is pervasive across the entire production process.”
“In this CGMeetup session, our attempt will be to dispel some of the general misconceptions that artists have about technology. We will also provide a glimpse into the tools and technologies used at Rhythm & Hues Studios in the making of films like Garfield, The Chronicles of Narnia and the more recent Superman Returns, and share our learning over the years”, added Rajesh. “Artists and other members of the CG community can mail us their queries and we will try to answer them during this session” he added further.
Speaking to Animation ‘xpress, R&H India Managing Director Prashant Buyyala said, “We have had an overwhelming response to all the earlier CGMeetup sessions and it provides a wonderful opportunity for us to share our views and experiences with the CG community”
The CGMeetup series began in January 2006 and has been a regular monthly feature covering a range of topics like modeling, 3D animation, matchmoving and compositing. The CGMeetup is being organized by ASIFA India and is supported by Rhythm & Hues India, nVidia, CG Tantra and Animation `xpress. As usual, the event will be free of charge and open to everyone. As seats are limited, participants need to register in advance.
