ASUS launches ROG Swift gaming display with massive 500Hz refresh rate

The current generation of high-refresh-rate gaming displays has a maximum refresh rate of 360Hz. While 360Hz is certainly an overkill for the vast majority of gamers, ASUS wants to outperform the competition. At Computex 2022, the business introduced a new gaming monitor with a genuinely insane 500Hz refresh rate. The ASUS ROG Swift 500Hz is a breakthrough unit, according to ASUS, that provides the most smooth and fast-paced experience in current esports.

The announcement comes a little over two years after Nvidia and ASUS collaborated on CES 2020 to develop 360Hz gaming monitors for esports. Because of the smoother animations, Nvidia promises that this new 500Hz panel will make target tracking easier and reduced ghosting should reduce distractions during gaming. Any high refresh rate screen must have low latency and Nvidia claims one will be able to see players peering out of cover faster than on a 240Hz or 144Hz monitor.

The ROG Swift 500Hz has a 24.1-inch panel with a resolution of full HD (1920×1080). Given the extraordinarily fast refresh rate, the relatively poor resolution is comprehensible. Even the greatest graphics cards will struggle to achieve such incredibly high frame rates at resolutions higher than 1080p. To put things in perspective, in a single second, the ROG Swift 500Hz draws frames more than eight times faster than ordinary 60Hz displays. It’s excellent since it gives players more time to gain an advantage over the opponent in esports games, but it also means one’s graphics processing unit (GPU) will be put to the test.

The Swift 500Hz gaming monitor’s price and availability are yet to be announced by ASUS.
