VFX studio MPC to open its doors to aspiring VFX artists in Bangalore

The Moving Picture Company’s in-house finishing school, MPC Academy is opening its doors to aspiring feature film visual effects artists on 5 October. MPC’s Bangalore studio will be taking on 18 artists, and training them in the filmmaking technique of Match Moving.

Speaking about the Academy, MPC Bangalore executive director Biren Ghose said: “A significant number of the MPC Bangalore crew are graduates from our internal MPC Academy courses. In the amazing line up of new projects, our academy will continue to be a key resource for future talent.”

Match Move is used to insert CG into live-action footage with correct position, scale, orientation and motion, relative to the photographed objects in the shot. It is primarily used to track the movement of a camera through a shot so that an identical virtual camera move can be reproduced in a 3D program.

In the first 8 weeks of the programme, full time training is delivered by experienced VFX professionals with graduates joining MPC’s feature film VFX crew. Launched by MPC’s head of training and development, Andrew Schlussel, The Academy offers skills based training to give graduates hands-on, real experience on film VFX. Andrew was previously education manager at Dreamworks Animation and has taught at Pixar and various colleges and universities globally.

MPC is currently working on Disney’s The Jungle Book, Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, The Martian, Spectre, Goosebumps, X-Men: Apocalypse, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Independence Day: Resurgence.
