Ubisoft’s ‘The Division’ set to be made into a movie; Jake Gyllenhaal to produce and star in it

Tom Clancy’s The Division was released earlier this year and went on to join the success club as one of the games with the most lucrative releases in terms of the initial week revenue. The online only open world, third person shooter was developed by Ubisoft Massive and was published by Ubisoft. It received good reviews and even toppled the records having highest number of first day sales among all IPs of the company. The game went on to generate around $330 million in just the first week.

Now, as the report comes from Variety, a movie based on the game is underway with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role as well as filling in the role of the producer. Though, it will not likely be anytime soon that we get to hear or sneak a peek into the movie as the report also states that Ubisoft is yet to rope in a writer to pen down the script. To top that up, the company might also be looking to bring on board another famed actor.

Interestingly, it will not be Gyllenhaal’s first time starring in a film based on an Ubisoft project, as previously he had donned the cape of the lead in Disney’s adaptation of Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Ubisoft has recently established their internal movie division with plans of developing movies based on around six of their IP’s, which includes games like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dog, Splinter Cell. Ubisoft’s motive behind this seems to be about bringing a change in the notion that, movies based of video games are never well-made.

Ubisoft still has to confirm “The Division” movie and nothing else is known yet. We will just have to wait for the confirmation from the horse’s mouth itself.
