Twitter targets gamers with new hire

twitter_logoPopular social media site Twitter is flooded with celebrities from all walks of life but the gaming scenario is a bit dull and Twitter wants to change that. It wants to bring in a lot more gamers to tweet about the games on the platform. In a recent effort to achieve that it has lured an executive over from YouTube.

Rodrigo Velloso, who was previously at Google working as the director of gaming content for YouTube, joined the Twitter team as director of gaming partnerships, which the company confirmed. He role will be to forge relationships and partnerships with everyone, be it developers, YouTubers, big gaming communities, even event coordinators of conventions like E3 and PAX, and also big names in the world of eSports. Velloso will be reporting to Kirstine Stewart, head of North American media at Twitter.

“My entire career at Google revolved around content partnerships,” Velloso told Variety. “I want to work with content creators and give them the tools, or in some cases build them the tools, to allow them to produce the best content.”

The recent partnership Twitter struck was with The Game Awards and the community is bound to grow with video games reaching developing countries. Twitter as a platform has been lagging behind Facebook and with platforms like Twitch coming up, Twitter needed a much needed boost in the segment.
