Toonz Media Group is bringing a world of stories to Mipcom, with a slate that hops across genres, borders and technologies. From creator-led adventures and family features to anime and AI-driven filmmaking, the company is looking to take its IP to new markets and audiences.
The lineup features MechWest, Tulipop: Magical Seasons, A Banquet for Hungry Ghosts, The Taste of Water and Rokuro, alongside Big Foot and Carlos and Pierre the Pigeon Hawk. The strategy spans international sales, co-productions, localisation and digital distribution.
Toonz Media Group vp feature film Gulshan David shared,” Our Mipcom slate reflects the strength and diversity of the stories coming out of Toonz today. We are bringing projects with distinctive creative identities and strong international potential, while working closely with partners to take these stories to audiences across markets. For us, it is about combining compelling storytelling with the right global strategy to build lasting value for our content and our partners.”
Leading the charge is MechWest, a CG action-adventure series created by animation veteran Dave Gallagher and produced by AnimSchool Studios. With more than 11 million lifetime views and multiple industry honours, the independently developed property has secured a worldwide distribution agreement with Toonz.
The feature lineup brings both family-friendly magic and spooky folklore to the table. Tulipop: Magical Seasons, a 70-minute family feature from Icelandic studio Tulipop Studios, will be represented by Toonz as its international sales agent.
Meanwhile, A Banquet for Hungry Ghosts serves up animated horror rooted in Asian folklore. Co-produced with Robot Playground Media, the feature adapts Ying Chang Compestine’s acclaimed book and brings together creative and production partners from Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, India and Ireland. Its hybrid 2D/3D animation adds another dimension to the cross-cultural collaboration.
Anime is also getting a new audience. Toonz will bring Japanese adventure Rokuro to Hindi-speaking viewers through its Chotoonz TV platform, using localisation to help the property connect with audiences in a new market.
On the technology front, The Taste of Water blends live-action footage captured across Japan with AI-assisted rotoscoping and 3D Gaussian splatting to create anime-inspired imagery. Co-produced with Tokyo-based Supersub LLC, the project explores memory, culture and human emotion while experimenting with emerging production techniques.
Beyond individual titles, Toonz is widening its distribution playbook across broadcast, streaming, video-on-demand, YouTube, telecom partnerships and free ad-supported streaming television Fast channels.
Toonz director of content distribution and digital media networks Anish Narayankutty added, “Our slate brings together very different kinds of projects, from independently developed action-adventure and family features to culturally rooted Asian stories and technology-driven filmmaking. What connects them is the potential to travel across markets. The opportunity today is to think about an IP beyond its first window.”
The company will also showcase Big Foot and Carlos and Pierre the Pigeon Hawk, adding further variety to its mix of preschool entertainment, family content, feature animation and genre storytelling.
At Mipcom, Toonz will meet broadcasters, streaming platforms, distributors, producers and financiers to explore sales, co-production, financing and strategic partnerships.
