Sony Pictures computer hacked; company on an electronic standstill

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s computer system has been breached by a group of hackers who call themselves GOP (Guardian of Peace) which has resulted in company shutting down all of its systems.

A picture has appeared on the internet which shows the screenshot of the hacked computer where it states that some undisclosed demands have not been met and that they will reveal company secrets if their demands are not met.

“We already warned you, and this is just a beginning. We continue till our request is met. We’ve obtained all of your internal data including your secrets and top secrets. If you don’t obey us, we’ll release the data shown below to the world,” says the message.

The company computers have been unresponsive since the last three days and the tech team is still figuring out how the breach happened and what steps can be taken to avoid such things in future. The employees have been advised to shut off the computers at work stations and disable Wi-Fi from their phones. Instructions are given to work from and not log-in to company emails till the matter is resolved.

Sony is not new to the hacking as its PlayStation Network was hacked in April 2011, and again in August 2014. Sony Pictures was hacked as well in June 2011, exposing private data from more than 37,000 users.
