It sure is difficult to let go a Multi-genre entertainment and comic convention that brings in over 130,000 nerds, geeks and people dressed up in costumes of raring comic fashions to a city convention. Also not to forget what the city officials cite as an event that ushers in over $180 million paving way for tremendous business and boosting the tourism sector of the city. With less than a week for the 2015 – Comic-Con International, thousands are expected to fly in to the city, boosting the hospitality sector as attendees would be dining at various city restaurants and bars would be lit up hosting parties and echo the euphoric atmosphere in Downtown San Diego.
As per the latest reports, San Diego Mayor officially announced that the Comic-Con remains in San Diego for at least through 2018 providing a great momentum to the tourism space of the area. The Mayor acknowledged that the Comic-Con convention was worth millions to their economy. The deal with the Comic-Con International has sought to bring in almost $3 million in tax revenues each year and the city will take pride in hosting the convention all the way through 2018. As part of the deal, Comic-Con International were also wanting that the hotels would come on-board to provide attendees with blocked-room rates, another cheer for the fans this year.
Comic-Con International spokesperson, David Glanzer stated that San Diego was a prime location to host the convention and hopes to keep it home for a very long time.
Since the past few years, the Convention Hall in the city has proven to be ill-equipped in space for the ever-increasing crowds at the San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC).There had also been talks that Los Angeles and Anaheim were being considered to host the future Comic-Con conventions as the Comic-Con convention had out-grown San Diego Convention Centre and the city had failed to get a Convention Centre expansion.
However this year, city officials have promised to cater in to the dramatic rise of Comic-Con attendees, as reports have confirmed that the city will be providing additional meeting room space outside of the convention center and also would be reserving rooms for the attendees.
SDCC runs from 9-12 July and promises a host of new surprises and treats for fan-boys from the studios and comics alike. One of the most anticipated events is that from Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ unveiling more on their upcoming projects including Batman v Superman – Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
