‘Sakamoto Days’ reloads for a hit-filled S2

Taro Sakamoto may have hung up his hitman hat, but trouble has other plans. Sakamoto Days returns in January 2027 with fresh faces, undercover missions and a past that refuses to stay dead.

The newly released character trailer introduces three newcomers to the anime: Sakamoto’s former teacher Etsuko Satoda, conflicted student Amane Yotsumura and elusive father Satoru Yatsumura. With old scores to settle and new threats on the horizon, retirement is looking anything but peaceful for the former assassin.

Season two follows Sakamoto and Shin as they infiltrate the Japan Clear Creation (JCC), an institution that trains assassins, to uncover secrets surrounding the mysterious figure known as X, or Slur.

Meanwhile, members of the elite assassin task force Order: Nagumo, Shishiba and Osaragi, head to Kyoto for an assignment, only to walk into an unexpected ambush. As the plot thickens, the tangled past connecting Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion and Slur finally comes into focus.

Written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki, the manga has been serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump, an anthology magazine published in Japan, since 2020 and has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.

The anime adaptation debuted in January 2025, with its first season split into two parts. It introduced Sakamoto, once the world’s greatest hitman, who traded his deadly profession for domestic bliss after falling in love with Aoi (Sakamoto’s wife), a convenience store clerk. Marriage, a daughter and a quiet convenience store followed, until his old life came knocking.

Season one’s second part began its weekly run on 14 July, keeping the action rolling across 11 episodes. Both parts are available to stream on Netflix.
