Fox Star India took netizens by surprise as it released the first official trailer of the most talked about project helmed by Anurag Kashyap today morning. Even as recent developments of Reliance Entertainment joining hands with Phantom Films made heads turn, Kashyap continues to deliver some great stories on celluloid.
The film which has long been in the making has been making headlines for various reasons over the past several months. Right from the casting of Karan Johar to play baddie Khambatta and his classy and suave look for the feature to Ranbir Kapoor training in martial art forms to reprise the role of Johnny Balraj, a street fighter who wants to make it big in life.
The storyline revolves around the protagonist Johnny Balraj. He falls for a beautiful jazz singer Rosie (Anushka Sharma), who is desired by every man who sets eyes on her. Theirs is the perfect love story… But not for long!
Bombay of the 60s is brought to life beautifully onscreen by lead actors Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in the first trailer of Anurag kashyap’s much awaited ‘Bombay Velvet’.
The lights, the glamour, the charm, men in dapper suits and women with bouffant hairdos – all of it is reminiscent of a retro Bombay.
Producer-director Karan Johar plays the film’s antagonist in his first full-fledged role onscreen. Greasy hair and a neat moustache, Karan Johar plays a Parsi businessman Kaizad Khambatta, who promises to make the simple Johnny Balraj, one of the big guys, but as the story must get interesting, he has some tricks up his sleeve.
This is also the first time that Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma will be seen sharing space onscreen. The duo is also seen kissing quite a few times, which shows that they share good chemistry in the film.
The screenplay of ‘Bombay Velvet’, that has been in the making for the last five years, is jointly penned by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Vikramaditya Motwane.
The movie has music by Amit Trivedi, who has concentrated on jazz music for Anushka’s character. Bombay Velvet, which is a large screen adaptation of Gyan Prakash’s ‘Mumbai Fables’, will release on 15 May.
The DI for the film has been delivered by Prasad Lab (Mumbai) and the visual effects for this feature has been executed by Prana Studio. From the look of the teaser, it certainly seems a lot of set extensions, chroma shots, clean-ups and CG work has gone into creating the period look for the film that’s set in the 1960s of the city of Mumbai.
