The long-running Pokémon storage service Pokémon Bank is set to shut down in February 2027, making another step in Nintendo and the Pokémon company’s transition away from the Nintendo 3DS ecosystem.
Pokémon Bank allowed players to store and manage Pokémon collected across compatible Nintendo 3DS games. The service also provides a route for transferring Pokémon to Pokémon Home, the cloud-based storage service available on Nintendo Switch and compatible mobile devices.
The closure will affect players who still have Pokémon stored through the 3DS service. Nintendo has already made Pokémon Bank available at no cost, while new downloads of the application are no longer offered. Pokémon transferred from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home cannot be transferred back to Pokémon Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS titles.
For players looking to preserve their Pokémon collections, Pokémon Home remains the intended destination, it also expands support to Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen in October.
The transition also highlights the changing role of the Nintendo 3DS in the wider Pokémon ecosystem. Pokémon Bank originally supported games including Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Pokémon Ultra Moon.
Meanwhile, Pokémon Home continues to connect Pokémon collections across supported games and platforms. Nintendo states that the service can be accessed on Nintendo switch two, Nintendo switch and compatible mobile devices, offering players a central place to manage their Pokémon.
The February 2027 shutdown therefore represents the end of an important chapter in Pokémon’s digital history, as the franchise continues moving its collection and transfer features towards newer platforms and services.
