Paul Sage, the creative director behind ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’ quits to join Gearbox

Creative director of the very popular MMO The Elder Scrolls Online (TESO), Paul Sage has quit the project. Sage has now joined Borderlands developer Gearbox Software but in what capacity or project is still unknown.

After launching on PC in 2014, recently Besthesda’s MMO launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One less than three weeks ago.

Gearbox is currently working on Battleborn which is helmed by Randy Pitchford and Randy Varnell but the project is currently at a very advanced stage so Sage is presumably not working on Battleborn.

The studio is actively hiring for Borderlands 3 and this could be Sage’s next big project if Gearbox is to involve a lot of multiplayer facets to the game. Sage’s experience with The Elder Scrolls Online could come in handy here.

Sage is a veteran among the MMO audience and has previously worked on Ultima Online while at EA and other games while at NCsoft.

Sage was one of the high profile names at Bethesda working on TESO along with game director Matt Firor.

Taking his place as the creative director is Rich Lambert who served as Lead Content Designer on TESO and has also worked on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Previously, Rich oversaw all content in the game.
