Nolan Bushnell of Atari fame set to debut in mobile gaming sector with Spil Games

Nolan Bushnell has been one of the most celebrated personalities in the world of gaming since decades. He co-founded Atari with Ted Dabney in 1972 and under its banner, pioneered arcade classics like Pong, Breakout and Adventure. The company further launched video game consoles and home computers. Their efforts helped shape the gaming and entertainment industry near late 90s.

Now, at the age of 73, the ‘father of modern video games’, as Bushnell is often referred to, is all set to mark his debut into the mobile gaming industry. He has recently signed a three game deal with the Netherland based Spil Games, who will be taking charge as both developers and publishers.

It is already clear that the mobile gaming sector is currently experiencing colossal growth, which is expected to only grow in near future. More and more entities are investing time, efforts and capital in this booming sector.

On his arrival into the mobile gaming industry, Bunshell commented, “The future of gaming has a very strong mobile component. It’s where most people play games and it’s where the technology and ideas are developing most quickly.”

He also revealed as why he chose Spil Games to collaborate with, “I talked to them and decided that they had a corporate culture that was very similar to Atari when I was leaving — great people with a fun attitude. They’ve got really good stuff, great analytics and a really good understanding of marketplaces.”

Spil Games seemed to be content with their deal with Bunshell as their CEO, Tung Nguyen-Khac said, “We’re stoked to be working with Nolan and feeding off his energy and creativity.”

Spil Games is based in the Netherlands and has over 100 million monthly active users and focuses primarily for casual games. And with the gaming industry veteran Bushnell coming into the picture, we can expect some remarkable games coming out of the studio.
