Nintendo’s President puts light on new console NX

One of the most secretive consoles in making, Nintendo’s NX is finally being talked openly by company president Tatsumi Kimishima. In a new message Kimishima talks about some of the company’s future goals while addressing shareholders and investors.

The letter also states on how the company hopes to shape its business strategy, while also commenting on the NX project.

The last console from Nintendo, Wii U was a disaster in term of sales and never caught on with public even though it got a healthy start against the PS4 and Xbox One. Nintendo now plans to build NX from ground up and have said that the console is a brand new concept and yet to reveal the full features behind their NX project.

Earlier this month, controller design from Nintendo was revealed but it was not confirmed whether the controller was for Nintendo NX or was just a patent design for later. Also, rumours of a multi-platform device were surfacing, with a controller that can also be used as a standalone device, have been in the air since its announcement.

Kimishima reveals that the new console will continue to make up the core of Nintendo’s business but he also speaks at length on how they want to expand their consumer reach.

“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo,” Kimishima explains in the new Nintendo statement.

“We are actively offering Nintendo IP in a variety of different ways so that not only current players of our video games but all consumers – including those who used to play but currently do not own and even those who have never played our video games before – will also come in contact with Nintendo IP.”

“For the purpose of maximizing the population that interact with Nintendo IP, we will also enter into the smart device gaming business and aim to generate revenue and profit from it as well as to create synergy with the dedicated video game platform business.”

“Nintendo will continue to flexibly transform itself by adapting to changing times while constantly valuing the spirit of originality based on the belief that the “true value of entertainment lies in its uniqueness” – and will continue to provide products and services that people will be surprised and delighted by.”

Will 2016 be an exciting year for Nintendo with its mobile gaming debut just round the corner and NX console coming up? Or will it still struggle to find the right balance between the mobile and console gaming to another dud year? Time will only tell.

Update: Finally, the video game manufacturing giant, Nintendo, gave its fans some reason to rejoice as recently, during their financial earnings announcement, the company revealed that their much speculated new console, codenamed ‘NX’ will be released in March 2017. Although the new console will be released globally in March 2017, it will not be displayed in this year’s E3, which will be held in the month of June. Instead, the company will focus more on the new The Legend of Zelda at this year’s E3. They confirmed that the game will be playable at E3, for the first time. The company further informed that both the Wii U version and the NX port for the Zelda game will be released in 2017.
