Microsoft Set for a Cloud Event on 20 October in San Francisco

Fresh from its Windows 10 preview, Satya Nadella is planning big things for Microsoft with an event planned on 20 October for the company’s future plans in the cloud services space. Focusing on business users and intending to showcase how Microsoft’s Azure is different from Amazon’s AWS and Google’s Cloud Platform, the event is planned so that Microsoft races ahead of its competitors, who too are gearing up with similar events in the coming month.

Nadella tweeted yesterday about the event taking place in San Francisco followed by an email invite to the press and analysts. CEO Nadella and Scott Guthrie, Microsoft’s EVP for its cloud and enterprise group, will preside over an hour long event that will start from 11:00 am Pacific Time and also will be webcast live on Microsoft News Center.

At the recently concluded Citi Global Tech Conference, Guthrie spoke about how Microsoft’s scale of operation was overhauling its competitors, with Microsoft data centers running in 17 regions worldwide. He also informed about the importance of Intune, Microsoft’s mobile-device management service, as well as the Enterprise Mobility Suite which includes Intune. Microsoft Azure’s ML machine-learning service, which is currently available in its preview form, will play a key role to company’s cloud approach.

Last week alone, Microsoft announced general availability of Redis Cache Service, Disaster Recovery to Azure, preview to Elastic Scale for Azure SQL Database and many more. Microsoft is churning out regular updates to Azure every two to three weeks, and has made sure new and better services are made available to public.

Since taking over the reins from Steve Ballmer, Nadella has sought more attention on the Azure cloud platform and it has become sort of a holding fort for its enterprise computing strategy.
