Lizard Squad attacks Xbox Live (again); this time also downs Sony’s breakaway studio

Lizard Squad is at it again. This time the hacker group has disrupted Xbox Live and Daybreak Games (previously Sony Online Entertainment) over the weekend.

Lizard Squad announced its latest feat on its Twitter account, revealing that the latest target would be Xbox Live. Later it tweeted “Xbox (360) Live #offline”. That message was followed up with the post: “Haha ‘Xbox’ is trending worldwide. We’re back.”

Microsoft is yet to comment on the disruption of the services.

Last Friday, Daybreak Games reported that its servers were being attacked, with its range of multiplayer online games – including zombie survival adventure H1Z1 – suffering connection issues. Later, Lizard Squad tweeted “H1Z1 #offline”.

Previously the anonymous group had taken down the PlayStation network and Xbox Live services on Christmas, leaving thousands of new consoles owners in the lurch.

During the Christmas outage, cloud storage magnate KimDotcom had offered the group vouchers in return of the services and ending the attacks which the group accepted. However, the group recently tweeted, “One more thing: Tell KimDotcom to take his vouchers and shove them up his fat a**.”

In January, two members of the group got arrested for the Christmas carnage – an 18-year-old from Southport and a 22-year-old from Twickenham. But neither of them is charged yet.
