LG introduces first ultra wide gaming monitor with AMD FreeSync

LG has introduced the first ultra wide gaming monitor. The Curved UltraWide is world’s first monitor to incorporate a 34-inch curved IPS screen with 21:9 aspect ratio. Apart from this, the South Korean manufacturer has also unveiled the Digital Cinema 4K.

The latest gaming monitor by LG will have refresh rate of 144Hz that ensures the most intense action smoothly and flicker-free. The monitor will also integrate LG’s Dynamic Action Sync Mode that cuts input lag, allowing player to respond faster to what’s happening on the screen. Some other notable features are Black Stabilizer for consistent blacks across different scenes and Game Mode, which offers three optimised settings that can be applied quickly by pressing a hotkey on the monitor, with the option to create customised presets and the Motion 240 that helps minimise motion blur with a fast response time of less than 1ms.

AMD’s FreeSync technology eliminates the screen tearing that occurs when the monitor and graphics card are out of sync. FreeSync technology guarantees the smoothest and most seamless gaming experience without any loss of frame rate.

LG hasn’t revealed the resolution of the screen, nor any other vital statistics (latency, panel type, viewing angles, etc).

In 2013, Nvidia launched its display technology – G-Sync, which it promised would reduce frame stutter and tearing. G-Sync was placed behind the monitor inside a logic board, so that it would not work with the current monitors and one had to buy new ones with logic boards inside.

After a short while, AMD too introduced a similar technology – FreeSync which similar technology but without the logic board. However, one needs a DisplayPort 1.2a controller to support FreeSync but most old monitors don’t have that so again new ones need to be bought.
