King Kong switches studios from Universal to Warner Bros. for up-coming prequel

Hollywood’s favourite, gigantic simian, King Kong moves to Warner Bros. for its upcoming prequel, Kong: Skull Island, confirms a latest report from an individual with knowledge of the project.

The original epic monster film, King Kong directed by Peter Jackson was housed by Universal Studios and Legendary Pictures and successfully grossed over $550 million over its $207 million budget paving way for the makers for a prequel.

Helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson and is expected to hit theatres on March 10, 2017. Although the movie plot has been under wraps, the prequel is likely to trace the origin of Kong at Skull Island. What’s confusing is that although being a prequel, the upcoming monster flick will be set in the 1970s as against the original which was set in the 1930s. The future timelines set arouse all the more interest in the King Kong project, not to forget the epic larger-than life sequences that Jackson brought on-screen with of course Mo-cap genius Andy Serkis portraying the 25-feet gorilla.

Also with Kong switching studios, speculations are running wild of an inevitable epic-monster clash film between the Nuclear-radiated massive Godzilla and the gigantic simian, King Kong.  Jogging back in time, Hollywood bore witness to the mega clash between the giant monsters in the 1962 film Godzilla vs King Kong.

With Warner Bros. already holding onto the rights of the Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla (2014) which domestically grossed over $200 million and now Kong too in its kitty, a remake face-off may surely be on the books.

Post the success of the recent Gareth Edwards’s Godzilla, Warner Bros. has announced a Godzilla sequel sometime in 2018.
