Fox Animation acquires animated rights to ‘The Eagle Huntress’ documentary

20th Century Fox Animation will be picking animation remake rights for the live action documentary The Eagle Huntress. Directed by Otto Bell and executive produced by Morgan Spurlock and Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley, The Eagle Huntress features the striving tour of a girl to become the best eagle hunter.

The documentary talks about the Kazakh people of western Mongolia following a traditional practice of hunting with golden eagles. Revolving around Aisholpan, a 13-year old Mongolian girl striving to become the first female eagle hunter in the 2,000 year old sport, this doc breaks through the tentacles of gender barriers to display the potential of women.

Sony already acquired North American rights to the documentary via its Sony Pictures Classics label. But, Fox Animation has preferred to create an animated version of this story.

Chris Wedge will produce the animated adaptation of The Eagle Huntress, and Darren Lemke will script the same as per a report in Variety. Fox Animation’s Darlene Caamano Loquet and division president Vanessa Morrison will oversee the project.
