Former EA CEO takes the highest position at Unity, as Founder David Helgason Resigns

One of the biggest game developing technology company Unity is going through a change at the highest level. Unity Founder and CEO, David Helgason is stepping down from the position to be replaced by Ex EA CEO John Riccitiello.

Unity is a technology company that makes development tools for game developers. The engine by the company is the most used engine with over 600,000 developers using it to make their games. Also, the games developed in the engine are compatible with all the platforms, latest being the new-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“I’m so proud of everything Unity accomplished in the last decade but now it’s time to look forward to an excellent future. Our mission is an important one, so I’m incredibly happy that John has agreed to lend his formidable experience to the role of CEO at Unity,” said David Helgason.

John Riccitiello served first as the President and COO for Electronics Arts and then later as the CEO for the company until he resigned last year. Later, he dabbled in a few start-ups and was on board of few companies including Unity.

“Unity has been a hugely positive force in the games industry for years. Now it’s my incredible fortune to have the opportunity to help guide Unity going forward.” said John Riccitiello. “Unity is more than a great engine or packages of services, it’s an amazing and diverse community of developers, many of which are changing the way we think about game design and production.”

A couple of weeks ago speculations were rife that the company was out in the market looking for a buyout, and the potential buyers were going to be Google, but Unity denied the rumours and said company was not for sale.

Helgason will continue at Unity as the Executive Vice President for the company and will be involved in taking company’s future forward.
