Animation, costume design and emerging media projects have received recognition as the Television Academy announces the juried winners for the 78th Emmy Awards.
The Television Academy announced the winners of the 78th Emmy Awards in juried categories on 12 August, recognising achievements across animation, costume and innovation in emerging media programming. Unlike regular Emmy categories, juried awards are decided through a professional peer-review process, with entries evaluated on their individual merits.
The awards will be presented across the first two nights of the 78th Emmy Awards, taking place at the Peacock Theater at L.A live on 5 and 6 September. An edited presentation of the first two nights will air on FXX on 12 September at 8 pm Eastern Time (ET) and Pacific Time (PT).
The following juried awards will be presented:
Outstanding individual achievement in animation
- Eyes of Wakanda was recognised for character design, with Uzoma Dunkwu receiving the award for the episode Into the Lion’s Den.
- Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal received two awards, with David Krentz recognised for storyboard for Kingdom of Sorrow and Scott Wills for art direction for Vengeance of Death.
- The Mighty Nein was also honoured, with Howard Chen receiving the award for background design for the episode Mote of Possibility.
- Star Wars: Visions earned recognition for character design, with Takashi Okazaki honoured for The Duel: Payback.
Outstanding innovation in emerging media programming award
- Crafting Crimes, created for Meta Quest by Targo. Producer Victor Agulhon and director Chloé Rochereuil were recognised for the project.
Outstanding costumes for variety, nonfiction or reality programming
- The Masked Singer and The Traitors were recognised. The awards acknowledged the costume teams behind Premiere Part 1 of The Masked Singer and The Black Banquet of The Traitors.
Outstanding motion design
- No Emmy was awarded
The juried categories use a one-step evaluation and voting procedure, meaning there are no nominees. Panels of professionals from the relevant peer grou[ps review the entries and can choose to award one, more than one or no Emmy.
The main 78th Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on 14 September and will be hosted by Emmy-winner Mariska Hargitay. The ceremony will be broadcast live on NBC and stream on Peacock.
