Eoxys’ ‘Jungle Transformers’ runs wild on smartphones

Eoxys, a Bengaluru based game development company that has been in the business for over four years and successfully developed games for Nokia; along with achieving success on the platform. The studio has since moved to making games for other platforms as well and has recently developed a runner game with a rather unique concept, where you play as three animals – rabbit, deer and rhino that are on a mission to rescue the king of the jungle, who is kept captive in the Mayen world.

AnimationXpress.com spoke to Eoxys MD Prabhakar A to get to know the game better. “Prior to Jungle Transformers we have developed a few games, which includes Cycle Boy 3D. We initially started our journey with Nokia, where we achieved download numbers to the tune of 33 million in the Ovi store alone. For over a year now, we are trying our best to replicate that success on the Android and iOS stores.”

Jungle Transformers has you transforming from one animal to another, as the hindrance come along the way. A rabbit is quick and can pass through tunnels and burrows. The deer on the other hand will jump over the obstacles and the rhino can smash through things.

Each animal has its own ability in the jungle. According to the situation, each animal should be exploited to continue the rescue run. Each animal has its own fruit to be collected, while collecting other fruits will result in negative points.

Collecting fruits being a rhino, a deer and a rabbit will fetch you 5, 3 and 2 points respectively.

Probing him further about the inspiration behind the game, Prabhakar revealed: “We wanted to develop a 3D game with an easy concept and this game should not be compared with any other game in the industry. We tried to identify a theme and tried to develop it.”

The studio has a similar game on the app store called Animal Transformer which has a similar concept.

Prabhakar added: “Our base motivation came from the same game and we wanted to adapt the 2D game into a 3D game in a way that it matches user’s expectation. With the 3D game we brought in the camera work, the lefts and the rights. In 3D, you have to give real world feel and with the waterfall and we had a lot of challenges.”

Studio’s in-house developers, designer and artists were at work on the game for nearly 4 months. The studio’s Sandeep and Salim have done the music for the game with Sathish Babu working as the lead concept artist.

With the game at around 90MB, it could register less number of downloads considering there are number of constraints on the data that is being used and the audience is limited to those who are not dependent on data billing and have access to WiFi. “Initially size was an hindrance but then we looked at top developers like EA, Gameloft that have good games at decent game sizes, which are in the range of 1GB, so we wanted to match the user expectations of the top developer companies. We felt that good graphics were important, so that the user feels good about the game,” he explained.

The game currently does not have forceful ads that show up every five minutes and that works in the game’s favour. Ads can be viewed to earn extra virtual currency with which players can buy extra power-ups.
