Disney XD’s ‘Avengers Assemble’ season five focuses on Black Panther

Following the tremendous box office success, Disney is bringing Black Panther to small screens. The fifth season of Disney XD’s animated series, Avengers Assemble will solely focus on the King of Wakanda, titled Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest.

The animated series will pit Black Panther against a collection of old and new foes, all as it depicts his struggle to balance his responsibilities to his homeland and his newfound duties as a member of the Avengers. That tension between protecting his people and using his powers for global good will reportedly be the heart of the show, as reflected by its first promo.

Marvel’s latest TV effort will also be defined by considerable action and humor and given that it’s a continuation of a long-running show about Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, prepare to see some appearances from other familiar faces as well, including (as seen above) Iron Man and Captain America.

Here’s the synopsis provided by the makers:

The Black Panther must decide his loyalties. Is he an Avenger first or King of Wakanda? As the mysterious Shadow Council rises to challenge Wakanda, T’Challa teams up with his sister Shuri to go on missions that no other Avenger can. It’s a globe-trotting journey of espionage and mystery as old foes resurface and new friends are made. In the end, Black Panther must balance defending his home and stopping threats before they start. Is he a sword or a shield? Only he can decide.

Black Panther’s Quest will premiere on Disney XD on Sunday, 23 September. It will also be available on the Disneynow app.
