Disney announces Star Wars first standalone film ‘Rogue One’

At a shareholders meeting held on Thursday, Disney has not thrown one but two delightful news to people. Apart from announcing the sequel to Frozen, it has also announced the first ever standalone Star Wars film to be called Rogue One.

The film isn’t a part of the trilogy saga and will be directed by Gareth Edwards who was previously associated with Godzilla and is written by Chris Weitz who wrote the screenplay for today’s Disney release of the live action version of Cinderella.

Rogue One is based on a story by Industrial Light & Magic chief creative officer John Knoll.  Shooting will commence soon and is expected to release on 16 December 2016.

The seventh episode Star Wars:The Force Awakens will hit theatres in 18 December 2015 while the eighth episode will be due on 26 May 2017. The trilogy will conclude in 2019.  The eighth part release date is in fact a day after the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars film’s release.
