Boston based animation studio Soup2Nuts to shut shop

A Boston based animation studio Soup2Nuts Animation Studio is winding up operations by the end of the month, after more than 20 years of service. The studio is notably known for Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist and the use of its patented Squigglevision computer animation process.

Started in 1993 as Tom Snyder Productions, the name got changed to Soup2Nuts in 1999. In 2001, it was acquired by Scholastic Inc, functioning as an in-house production studio under its Scholastic Media children entertainment group.

Soup2Nuts has worked on shows like Home Movies, WordGirl and Astroblast. Six months ago there were 60 people working for the studio which has over time reduced to just nine.

Scholastic senior VP for corporate communications Kyle Good said that the company is realigning some of the operations from Scholastic Media and the decision to shut down the studio as part of it. “We are restructuring that part of the business closer to our core businesses which are children’s publishing and education,” he said, according to Beta Boston.

The company has just finished work on seasons 7 and 8 of WordGirl and first season of Astroblast. However, Scholastic isn’t sure what the status of the two will be, going forward.
