The big white robot with his human friend will hit the small screen in 2017. A new animated series based on Disney’s 2014 animated feature film Big Hero 6 is now in production for a 2017 premiere on Disney XD.
The animated TV series will feature the adventures of the 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his robot Baymax. It will pick up immediately after the film’s events and feature the control freak Wasabi, scientist Honey Lemon, fanboy Fred and no-nonsense Go Go, who together form the legendary superhero team- Big Hero 6. Also, it revolves around the academic and social challenges that Hiro faces being a part of the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. Well, being a super hero team, they also bear the responsibility of protecting their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.
Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, known as the creators of Kim Possible, will serve as executive producers while Nick Filippi will serve as the supervising director. The series is being produced by Disney Television Animation.
Disney Channels Worldwide, president and CCO, Gary Marsh announced the series and said, “Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob and Baymax can deliver.”
Big Hero 6 (2014), produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, was inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name and was the first super hero film in the animated classic series of Walt Disney. It won the Academy Award last year for the Best Animated Feature and became the highest-grossing animated film of 2014 by collecting over $657 million worldwide.
A film of such huge appeal now heading to the small screen in the form of an animated series seems to be a challenging task which may mostly turn out favourable. As the film has already entertained the audience and Disney XD has a good reach of the young audience, the animated series will draw attention with ease and gain traction effortlessly. However, maintaining this traction is a task to be noted.
