‘Avatar’ sequel release date postponed to 2017

All the Avatar fans have to wait a little more as the sequel to the Academy award winning movie release date has been shifted to 2017.

James Cameron, who is working on three more Avatar films simultaneously, asserted that there is a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films. The aim is to complete the scripting by the end of the month.

The three films will be shot in New Zealand, where some of the original film was also made. Producer Jon Landau, who is working with Cameron on the movies, said the team is taking greater security precautions following the recent hack against Sony. The films hail from Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox.

Avatar is the highest-grossing film in history, with box office takings of almost $2.8 billion. The director also revealed that the film’s primary cast – Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver  have all signed on to return for the remaining two films.
