‘Apex Legends’ Season 5 introduces new legend Loba and her quest

Respawn has shared details about their Apex Legends season 5, titled Fortune’s Favor. The upcoming season will kick off on 12 May and introduce a new character, Loba, who was teased in the current season’s launch trailer. Players have been speculating Loba’s arrival as they had started seeing dogs and hearing howls in the game.

Loba is in the Season 4 trailer as her father was killed by Revenant, and we’ve seen quite a few references to this legend throughout Season 4. Now, it’s confirmed, though all we know is what she’ll look like and a minute or so of her backstory.Loba’s powers will be in Apex Legends, the trailer does showcase that she is a thief by trade and that could have an interesting aspect to it.

A new Stories from the Outlands trailer, which you can watch above, details Loba’s past and how she became a titular Apex Legend. Her abilities haven’t been detailed yet, but the Apex Legends website describes her as “stylish, sophisticated, and resourceful, whatever Loba wants, she takes. Good luck stopping her.” This is in line with her background as a thief.

Like other characters before her, Loba was data mined and leaked last year, so many thought she was going to be an upcoming legend in the game. Other legends that were leaked included Wattson and Crypto. However, Respawn has attempted to counter dataminers, specifically with the launch of Revenant. Ahead of that character’s reveal, Respawn launched teasers for Forge, who was promptly killed in a video by Revenant.

With Season 5 of Apex Legends making its debut, it’s time for Ranked Series 4. That’s right, Ranked gameplay didn’t come out until Season 2 of Apex, so it’s a bit behind. the all-new ranked mode, dubbed Fortune’s Favor. Here’s what Respawn had to say about Season 3/4:

  • Splits are working well. Staying with ~six weeks of ranked play before a reset
  • Tier and Apex Predator separated worked as intended
  • Reset gave a good incentive to keep playing
  • Switching maps mid-season helped keep things interesting, and will persist

That last bit is what has me the most excited because switching maps mid-season in Ranked really made the game interesting. You couldn’t just get used to one map, instead, having things turned completely upside-down during the season.
