Briarcliff Entertainment announced 29 October as the release date for Stitch Head, an animated family adventure arriving just in time for Halloween. The film, adapted from Guy Bass’s children’s book of the same name and directed by Steve Hudson, reimagines the Frankenstein tale with a whimsical twist.
Asa Butterfield voices the title role, a timid, hand-stitched creature tasked with keeping order in a castle full of a mad professor’s discarded experiments. His quiet life unravels when a ragtag freak show rolls into town and its owner, Fulbert Freakfinder, sets his sights on turning Stitch Head into the main attraction. The voice cast includes Joel Fry, Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, Fern Brady, Tia Bannon and Jamali Maddix.
Synopsis: Stitch Head follows the story of a small, forgotten creature living in a long-abandoned castle. Awoken by a Mad Professor, Stitch Head is tasked with protecting the professor’s other wildly inventive creations from the suspicious townspeople of Grubber Nubbin. A whimsical, heartfelt twist on the Frankenstein legend, Stitch Head is a comedy adventure for monsters of every age.
The music of Stitch Head is by Nick Urata, best known for Paddington. Producers are Sonja Ewers and Mark Mertens, with executive producers Adam Nagle, Mark Rau, Guy Collins, Tom Ortenberg, Ronnie Exley, Jeremy Ross and Oli Strong.
The film is a production of Germany-based studio Gringo Films. India-based animation studio Assemblage Entertainment, has worked on the animation and distribution is by GFM Animation. The film premiered in the Annecy Presents section of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June. Briarcliff will release Stitch Head in association with Rabbits Black.
