Activision Blizzard expands into cinematic universe

A first look at the World of Warcraft trailer which was released earlier this week made fans go week in the knees, wanting more from the studio. The game has been a rage among the gaming community and Activision Blizzard is looking to expand its games to movie universe similar to a certain comic publisher who’s now an entertainment company.

Made by Legendary Pictures, Blizzard won’t have full control on World of Warcraft, so rewards through this property will be shared by both. Gauging fans reaction, Activision Blizzard on an investor call announced launch its own film and TV studio, and which they will produce and make TV shows and movies around its IPs and characters.

The company is starting its first production with a television show based around Skylanders, and the cast features cast heavy weights like Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks, and Norm Macdonald.

The second will be a series of films based around Call of Duty, one of the best selling console video games of all time, grossing over $11 billion to date.

Activision Blizzard has hired former Disney senior executive Nick van Dyk who will serve as the co-president of the new studio. The company has most following on streaming sites through titles like StarcraftHearthStone, and Call of Duty.

Now we can see at company doing more promotions for its games through these films and TV shows where in the company can gain attention and hype when games are releasing.

Superhero movies have seen tremendous success in the past and video games are the fastest growing global business. And the first day grossing of the games have grossed billion dollars. And expanding to a movie universe seems to be the way forward.
