The franchise that has devastated the audience with the basic war of ‘Good vs Evil’ at a phenomenal supernatural level altogether, the X-Men, is back with a new fight. The upcoming film X-Men: Apocalypse revealed its first trailer on 11 December, 2015.
Directed by Bryan Singer, who is also the mastermind behind X-Men, X2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past, this film is based on the X-Men characters form the classic Marvel Comics. In fact, this film introduces the antagonist ‘Apocalypse’ who is the central character in the Marvel Comics X-Men universe as Singer aims to take the audience back to the comic through this film.
Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur, is a fictional rival who was first featured as a ‘Super villain’ in the comic X-Factor #5 in 1986. Well, in the film Apocalypse is seen as the most powerful mutant, who has awakened after thousands of years. Worshipped and honoured since the dawn of civilisation, he emerges as the God of mutants and is on his escapade to destroy the current world and make a new one of his own.
The trailer begins with Jean Grey played by Sophie Turner bewildered with a dream that shows her the end of the world and Professor X played by James McAvoy reassures her to calm down unaware of the war that lies ahead. Apocalypse played by Oscar Isaac terms himself to be called by different names like Ra, Krishna, Yahweh signifying that he’s God, as he makes his own army of mutants to conquer the world and create his own kingdom.
Well, the most powerful villain in this franchise, Magneto, joins the army of Apocalypse as he has always wished to destroy the good and rule the world. So, Apocalypse forms a team of Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and newcomers Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Angel (Ben Hardy), and Storm (Alexandra Shipp). While on the other hand, the good team striving to save the world from the clutches of these evil crew are led by Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Havok (Lucas Till), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jubilee (Lana Condor) and Jean Grey. Along with this, Moira Taggert (Rose Byrne), the CIA agent and Havok who returns Xavier’s school will be seen enhancing the story.
However, this battle seems to be a difficult task as Apocalypse can control anything and everything. At some point he even controls Professor X with the help of his counterpart Magneto. And this difficult task is crisply enhanced by the out of the world visual effects. The VFX led by the team of London based MPC, Australia based Rising Sun Pictures and California based Digital Domain and Hydraulx Studio have brought the destruction to life. The VFX coupled with appealing music at the start of the trailer itself will take you in a story that you will want to listen. The detailing on the character of Apocalypse signifies him quite similarly as portrayed in the comic and tremendous amount of work has gone in the overall makeup and appearance of the same.
Various scenes like the Storm coming to power; the Angel exhibiting his skill, Magneto controlling the Professor, Cyclops going uncontrollable and Apocalypse being revealed as a humongous giant have specific work of VFX to exhibit the quality and realistic feel. And, the epic scene of the destruction of the exotic London Bridge has exhilarated everyone and the VFX has created the ‘destruction that no can create’.
