X|Media|Lab Mumbai to focus on Digital Entertainment

13/03/2007
AnimationXpress Team

After making it’s mark in Singapore and Melbourne, X|Media|Lab has now spread it’s wings to Mumbai. The workshop for creative digital professionals will run along side FICCI-FRAMES 2007.

X|Media|Lab Mumbai “Digital Entertainment” format will differ slightly from previous Labs, as instead of having a X|Media|Lab Professional Day Conference prior to the two-day Lab, X|Media|Lab mentors will speak at FRAMES.

The Lab will be structured parallel to the FRAMES sessions, hence, at times there will be one-on-one mentoring sessions and at other times there will be joint sessions with the 1500 participants of FRAMES who will get the opportunity to simultaneously learn from XML Mentors and FRAMES speakers.

Mentors at the India Lab include maestro film maker Shekhar Kapur , Priya Prakash (the head of the BBCâ€?s interactive media player project (iMP), Matt Costello (Writer of best-selling computer games “DOOM 3” and “Pirates of the Caribbean 3”), Mark Ollila (Nokia Multimediaâ€?s worldwide Director of Strategy and Technology), Marcelino Ford-Livene (General Manager of consumer strategy for Intelâ€?s Digital Home Group), Isaac Kerlow (Film-maker and Board member of the Media Development Authority and the National Research Foundation in Singapore), Madhavan, (CEO of Indiaâ€?s largest animation company)Hong Robert Chua (Kong interactive TV pioneer), Dale Herigstad (4-time Emmy Award winner including the very first Interactive Emmy), and Tom Kennedy (Board Member Australian Film Commission).

X|Media|Lab Mentors will present across the Animation, Gaming, Film, and Television tracks at FRAMES. Its a stellar line-up of digital media powerbrokers at both X|Media|Lab and FRAMES 2007

Speaking to Animation Xpress.com, Megan Eliott, Director, X|Media|Lab shared, “Weâ€?re confident that the X|Media|Lab-FRAMES partnership will produce a spectacular and immensely valuable three days for everyone involved. Weâ€?re deeply honoured that world renowned filmmaker Shekar Kapur, and Priya Prakash, head of the BBCâ€?s interactive media player, are both coming back to Mumbai to be X|Media|Lab Mentors to local and international project teams.”

Added Megan, “The Labâ€?s success stems from the one-on-one mentoring sessions and the creation of an impeccable international network. Both of these things will happen in Mumbai. Indeed the networking opportunities will be greatly magnified due to our partnership with FRAMES.”

X|Media|Lab Mumbai is looking for 10 great projects along the general theme of â€?Digital Entertainmentâ€? – computer games, animation, IPTV, digital cinema, interactive entertainment and content, cross platform content, mobile applications. Projects can have a pure entertainment, factual or educational basis. Projects should be in the development or at a stage where innovations and revelations brought about by the Lab experience can still be implemented. The whole goal of the Lab is to help project ideas get to market and achieve commercial success!

Nominations have already been received from companies and project teams from Mumbai, Birmingham, Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore. One can still nominate ones project idea and team to participate in the Lab at the www.xmedialab.com. Existing FRAMES delegates are particularly welcome to apply as there is no additional fee for Lab participation if you are registered for FRAMES.

Sharing her thoughts on the first Indian leg of X|Media|Lab as well being an official part of FICCI FRAMES 2007, Megan said, “X|Media|Lab is proud to partner with FICCI-FRAMES and the incredible energy and limitless imagination of Indiaâ€?s digital media industries. We are genuinely excited to now have an India node in the X|Media|Lab International Network.”

“In 2007 X|Media|Lab will move into international visibility and stage Labs in Mumbai, London, Melbourne, Singapore and Beijing. We will continue to circulate Indian project teams and mentors throughout the Labs wherever they are staged! We very much welcome India based digital media professionals to â€?write themselves into the scriptâ€? and become part of the X|Media|Lab international network,” she further commented.

Media partners for X|Media|Lab, Mumbai “Digital Entertainment” include CNBC Asia and
