X Media Lab Singapore “Learning from Games”: Conference Day 6th December and International Workshop 7-8th December

X|Media|Lab, the internationally acclaimed digital media think-tank and creative workshop for digital media professionals is being held in Singapore between 6-8 December 06. The lab features an innovative mentoring model and mentors include a range of some of the world`s outstanding digital media practitioners, innovators, and power-brokers.

The event is divided into a full day public conference by general admission and an intensive two-day creative workshop for selected project teams who get to work directly on their own project ideas with a range of the world`s best digital media experts. At the Lab entrepreneurs and start-ups will get an opportunity to work with the International Mentors on their own project ideas.

The up-coming “Learning From Games” Lab focuses on all aspects of Game-Based Learning, education and games, and Serious Games. Mentors include Noah Falstein co-founder of the Serious Games Summit, John Buchanan ex-Head of Research at EA, Sande Chen author of `Games that Educate`, Chris Deering Chairman of Codemasters, Tracy Fullerton USC Game Innovation Lab, Siddharth Jain CCO Playware Studios Asia, Ian Livingstone Worldwide head of Product Acquisitions at Eidos, Greg Melloy from IBM, Jyri Salomma Head of Nokia Mobile Games Research China, Caryl Shaw Producer of the Sims and Spore – the most hotly anticipated game in the world, and Zhan Ye co-Founder of China Games Network.

Speaking to Animation Xpress.com, Brendan Harkin of X|Media|Lab shared, “Applications of Game-based learning in education, corporate training, government, health, and social learning are the fastest growing applications of games and games technologies. This X|Media|Lab focuses on linking educators and games developers interested in game-based learning applications with some of the world`s outstanding practitioners”

The 2006 Singapore Lab is looking for great project ideas along the general theme of “Learning from Games” – any projects concerned with the educational, pedagogical, or “serious” aspects of computer games can apply to be included in the 2 day Lab to work directly on their ideas with the International Mentors. The Lab will be held at the National Library Board Singapore.

Educators, policy-makers, and games developers are also invited to register for the Pro Day Conference featuring the Mentors on December 6th at the Grad Plaza Park Royal (S$199.00).
