‘Valheim’ may become Steam’s biggest-ever viral hit, with over 2mn copies sold

Viking survival game, Valheim, has now sold more than two million copies, developers Iron Gate AB announced in an update posted to Steam. Boasting over 370,000 concurrent players today, and rapidly rising, Valheim looks to be the fastest-growing viral hit ever on Steam. That means in just 13 days Valheim has accomplished a player count that would put many other massive hit games behind.

As revealed by SteamCharts, currently the game is more popular than multiplayer favourites like PUBG, Apex Legends, and even Grant Theft Auto 5, with only Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offense currently sporting more concurrent players.

Valheim developer Iron Gate is advising all players to back-up their characters and worlds after discovering a “world-destroyer” bug is resetting progress.

In a tweet, CEO Richard Svensson explained how players can make backups and avoid losing their data to the bug, confirming that despite trying to reproduce it and address the glitch, the team hasn’t yet been able to do so. However, Iron Gate suspects it may be connected to exiting the gaming by ALT+F4 and not via the menu.
