Square Enix launches Game Development Contest India 2012

Square Enix Co, Ltd, the developer and publisher of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider and Space Invaders, announced the launch of Square Enix Game Development Contest India 2012.

The contest is by a Japanese company to target the Indian region. Developers from diverse fields will be invited to join and showcase their talent. Multiple prizes are being offered. “This contest will be open to professionals and amateurs in India, and we hope to discover the next generation of talented creators through this initiative. Let’s bring the best games from India to the world!”, said Yasuhiro Fukushima, founder and honorary chairman of Square Enix.

Winners and participants of the contest who show excellent potential would be given an opportunity to work as development partners of Square Enix for IP development and
Square Enix may opt to publish their games.

There is no entry fee and the contest is open to both individuals and organizations alike.
Registration for the contest begins on 25th April. Finalists will be picked on 30th November and the winners will be announced on 20th December 2012.

SQUARE ENIX foray into gaming began with a contest in 1982 when it held the first
“Game Hobby Program Contest” to discover and nurture talented game developers in
Japan. The prize winning entries were later developed and released successfully as
commercial products reaching dizzy sales heights. This initiative contributed to the development of the Japanese game industry and many participants later became leading game developers.
